Week Four - Task #11. - “A Deep, Deep Breath”

Postby Prof. Sindor Aloyarc » Sun Apr 23, 2023 5:53 am

It’s disorienting to have the gryphon hauling you up above the courtroom into the clouds, especially upon looking down and not seeing a landscape of the beach and shack you originally entered from.

In its place are a labyrinth of rose covered hedges, with gardeners tending to the flowers at every turn.

Looking back up, you’re pleased to feel rather comfortable with the gryphon. The grip of its talons aren’t painful, and it’s face has a gentle expression.

You hear a gruff, squawking voice (somewhere between a roar and a chirp) coming from the gryphon’s throat, though it’s beak doesn’t move.

“Wasn’t ‘bout to letcha get eatin’ by that monstrosity right before you had the chance to return home and fix this mess.”

Just below the cloud line now, it’s quite something to behold a black and white checkerboard landscape you’re flying above.

Although you try not to assume the gryphon is actually taking you back to the tea party as it sounds, that’s exactly what happens.

Landing gracefully, the gryphon apologizes, “For startling you back there. Saw the opportunity, and I swooped!”

The same tiny door you came from to get here shimmers itself into view next to the gryphon, who nudges the door with its beak. As it pushes open, an arm reaches out, extending a hand to help you through the doorway.

The gryphon says “Good luck!” and flies away just as you come eye to eye with the hook nosed face of a boy named Griff.

Getting back to reality feels more emotionally overwhelming than you guessed, and the boy seems to understand this.

Intuitively, he inhaled deeply, then exhales completely. Not once or twice, but until he can tell you’ve acclimated to the space again, as small as you still are.

“Ready?” The boy asks, offering you a piece of cake that wreaks of magic you’ll need to gain your familiar height.

Charles Darwin is most known for his theory of evolution, in which he claimed that we have evolved from monkeys. But there is so much more to know about this famous scientist and thinker.

1. A true fun fact here. He was born exactly on the same day as Abraham Lincoln. The day in question is February 12, 1809. The only difference is the setting. Abraham Lincoln was born in a rude log cabin in the Kentucky wilderness. Darwin, on the other hand, was born in a grand Georgian house on an estate in Shrewsbury, England.

2. He also suffered from various illnesses. It is known he suffered from exhaustion, eczema, headaches, heart palpitations and chronic bouts of nausea. However, some argue that he may have contracted a parasitic illness called Chagas disease on one of his trips. This disease may have been the factor of his death, as it results in cardiac damage.

I will also share some fun facts about Charles Darwin. There are so many fun facts about this genius man, that I do not think you can run out of them!

1. It actually took him over 20 years to publish his Theory of Evolution! He was really concerned about the public and ecclesiastical acceptance of his radical idea, that he waited until 1858 to finally publish his work.

2. He was very...well weird in his romantic life. So weird, he actually created a pro and con list on marriage, and whether he should go for it or not. The list consisted of two columns. His upsides were children and constant companion. In the against one, you could find 'freedom to go where one liked' and 'loss of time'. He actually did not put 'family ties' on the list. Ironic, as he married his first cousin Emma Wedgwood in 1839.
