Week Four - Task #12. - “Change Of Hearts”

Postby Prof. Sindor Aloyarc » Sun Apr 23, 2023 5:53 am

Stepping back into the Heart’s family home, you're led silently and speedily by Griff to the first floor where the flustered energy has yet to subside.

These silly muffins, you bemuse. What in the actual world…

The boy pulls a hood over his face, then slips you a note before sneaking out the front door.

Someone coughs heartily behind you.

“You know who has the muffins, don’t you?” Pilar says, still relaxing in the same place you left her.

Upon reading the note, she’s correct. For a while you’d thought it might have been her, even, but no. The bigger picture is all at once becoming clear.

Showing her the final piece of evidence you needed to solve the case, your face opens up to a grin at the relief of being in your own lands again, and finally getting some answers.

Evidence #11. Of the individual who sipped Jasmine tea and the attendee who drank Ginger, one is Pilar and the other was the first to make it to the party.

“Everyone,” Pilar’s voice doesn’t raise in volume, yet somehow the clusters of party guests begin to hush as she pulls focus.

“They believe we know who the culprit is.”

You still have a couple ideas in mind of what happened to Queenie’s missing muffins, but you start presenting your evidence all the same, confident your findings will unveil the answers you need.

Task:
Solve the Logic puzzle you’ve been collecting over the course of this activity, then Send Me Your Solution through a private message!

Alternatively you may contribute a Spill The Tea research piece in 300 words or more, sharing interesting, unusual, or little known facts in your own words about any person throughout history.

This task is worth 15 beans, with an additional 15 bonus beans for completing all Week Four tasks by end of activity. Deadline is 11:59pm (HOL time) on Sunday April 30th.

A famous painter, Leonardo Da Vinci, is the character I decided to research for this task. Here are some fun facts I have found about this historical figure.

1. To begin with, his name was not really 'Leonardo da Vinci'. In fact, his full name was 'Lionardo di ser Piero da Vinci', which in literal translation means 'Leonardo, son of ser Piero from Vinci'. For his contemporaries, he was known as 'Leonardo or Il Florentine. This is because he lived near Florence.

2. He was born in a farmhouse on 14th or 15th April 1452. His father was a wealthy Florentine notary, whereas his mother was an unmarried peasant woman named Caterina. This made Leonardo an illegitimate child. This simple fact allowed him to do whatever he wanted to do as an adult. If he was legitimate child, he would be forced to follow his father footsteps and also be a notary.

3. He was not only skilled in painting, something he is most known for today. In fact he was an accomplished musician. He also believed that music is closely related to the visual arts 'as it was dependent upon one of the 5 senses'. Leonardo could play the lyre and flute. He often played at gatherings of the nobility.

4. As with many famous historical artists, he received most recognition after he passed away. During his lifetime, his scientific ideas and inventions received little attention from others. He also made no effort to have his notes published, which meant that it took centuries for the public to understand his genius.

5. His work for the Duke of Milan, Ludovico il Moro, called 'gran Cavallo' was destroyed. It was planned to be more than 25 feet tall and was intended to be the largest equestrian statue in the world. Leonardo actually spend 17 years planning it. However, before it was ready French forces invaded Milan in 1499. The French forces used the sculpture for target practise, which shattered it to pieces.

I decided to use the wonderful scientist, Albert Einstein for this research task. This is simply because I would love to learn more about him and this seemed to be a great opportunity to do so.

1. A lot of people believe that Albert Einstein had struggled during his years of education, but this is simply a myth. He loved to study Mathematics and Physics, for fun he said. He actually mastered differential and integral calculus by age 15. The myth may have come from the fact that Einstein was strongly against the idea of him studying subjects which he did not find interesting enough. This resulted in him skipping a few exams for this finals, including language, zoology and botany.

2. He could actually play on different instruments. His most favourite was violin. He started playing it at the age of 5, and at around the age of 17, his teachers were so impressed by his skills that they have asked him to play some music during a music exam. Playing violin was a form of relaxation of him to clear his mind.

3. He also loved to sail, but this time around, he was not good at it. He was known to constantly tip his boat over and required rescue dozens of times. As a matter of fact, his boat was called 'Tinef', which in Yiddish means 'worthless'.

4. His famous hair happened due to fatherhood. Yup! As a young man, he had short dark hair, which were well-maintained. This was until his son Hans was born. He became so busy that the stopped combing his hair, which slowly resulted in his famous hair style. He later started to avoid barbers and hairdressers for the rest of his life. It was his wife, who used to cut his hair if they got worse than usual.

Full Puzzle:
The guests in question (including Doris) arrived in fifteen minute increments between 4:30-5:30. Decipher who these suspects are, each of their arrival times, what they contributed to the gathering (including Lemons), and the five different kinds of tea they were drinking before you got to the party.

Evidence #01. The person who enjoyed Ginger tea showed 15 minutes sooner than the guest who drank Earl Grey.

Evidence #02. Kingston didn’t bring the Butter.

Evidence #03. The attendee who spilled their Rooibos tea arrived 15 minutes after the person who prefers Chamomile.

Evidence #04. The guest who made sure there was Sugar joined in 45 minutes prior to The Twins.

Evidence #05. Catarina didn't make it to the party at 5:15

Evidence #06. Neither the Cream connoisseur nor whoever makes the best Butter likes the taste of Jasmine tea.

Evidence #07. The visitor who offered Butter is either the person who loves Ginger tea or the one who turned up at 5:15.

Evidence #08. Pilar contributed the Sugar.

Evidence #09. Of the guest who clocked in at 4:30 and The Twins, one brought Jam and the other adores Jasmine tea.

Evidence #10. The Cream wasn’t brought by Kingston.

Evidence #11. Of the individual who sipped Jasmine tea and the attendee who drank Ginger, one is Pilar and the other was the first to make it to the party.

Solution:
Spoiler :: Show this spoiler
Arrival • Guest • Contribution • Tea
4:30 — Kingston — Lemons — Jasmine
4:45 — Pilar — Sugar — Ginger
5:00 — Catarina — Cream — Earl Grey
5:15 — Doris — Butter — Chamomile
5:30 — The Twins — Jam — Rooibos
End of spoiler.
