Week One - Task #01. - “Farthest-Away Mountain”
Posted: Mon May 03, 2021 10:30 amThe ballad singer who comes once a year to bring news and tales from all over the country always speaks of the Farthest-Away Mountain seen in the distance. Its black peak standing up clear of the thick shawl of pine woods it wears on its lower slopes, with a narrower mantle of snow at the top.
This snow changes colors in a most odd way. Sometimes it’s a sharp blue, then sometimes purple or pink, or even yellow and green. You watch this snow with great puzzlement, for snow, after all, is supposed to be white! You look at the pine woods too. Forest always give you a shivery feeling. Half unease, and half excitement.
It is impossible to reach the mountain because however long you travel toward it, it always stays in the distance. This, the ballad singer would say, is due to a spell which had been placed on it by a magician from your very own village, whose wicked son had disappeared into the mountain long, long ago.
Ever since you were a small child you’ve always had the same three wishes you’d like to accomplish before settling down anywhere:
You want to visit the Farthest-Away Mountain and find out what makes the snow change color, you want to meet a Gargoyle to ask why they’re so sad, and you want to fall in love with a member of the royal family.
Your parents remind you that no one has ever been to the Farthest-Away Mountain, not even them, and they’re the most traveled people in village.
Your youngest sibling reminds you that gargoyles are scary, while an older sibling explains the color of the snow is due to the sun shining on it (though you have a hard time believing it shines quite so lavender or turquoise).
Finally you're reminded that no one in the royal family can get married until the Ring of Kings is found, which has been missing for many years ever since it was stolen at a christening for one of the royal children.
Still, your mind is made up. And somehow you can't change it.
Task:
Adventure is in the air! Create an Avatar and/or Signature for this activity you might showcase on your profile here at The Roost. Avatar size is 100x100px for 10bns, Signatures are 250x100px for 20bns.
Alternatively you could submit a different drawing or graphic of some kind (up to 600x600px in size) as a sort of poster/advertisement for 30 beans.
Should you prefer to describe your work in writing, a minimum of 150 words will be expected for full marks.
You would also be welcome to write a short story revolving around one of these visits from the ballad singer for 200 words. This could be presented as a poem or song if preferred.
