A faint cackling lingers on the breeze, growing louder and more maniacal by the second.
The brothers explain in hushed and hurried voices that the master, whose devious essence has become fused with the mountain over time, has ever since only been seen at night taking on the shape of the Witch of Many Colors, who spends all her time hunting for the coveted ring.
“Hide!” all three warn, guiding you to climb just over one side of the cliff, where yes! There’s a small ledge for you to crouch down on, listening as a woman’s voice penetrates your psyche in a disquieting way.
“Where are they?” she demands.
“Where’s who?” the brothers utter.
“Don’t play coy.” A coldness in her tone seeps through your heart, frosting it over with an icy shell. “If I find out you’ve been helping this new ...” she falters, “... presence to reach the top of the mountain of their own free will, heads will roll.” Then, “Stone heads, get it?” she laughs, taking back off into the sky, calling out as she flies away, “They’ll roll a long, long way.”
