Week Four - Task #11. - "The Royal Family"
Posted: Sun May 23, 2021 11:33 pmGog being on his way back toward the mountain has left you thrilled knowing his three brothers have been waiting for him for quite some time. You’re actually rather sad not to be there for the reunion.
Given how much you miss them, you can’t help but take a visit to see your family before heading to the royal court.
They’re practically bawling as everyone welcomes you home, but you’re adamant there’s no time to be wasted. They don’t all agree necessarily, but your father’s such a dear that he puts the matter to rest saying he’ll ride you there himself if you’ll stay for a bit of lunch.
Of course you’re happy to, especially given how famished you are on thinking about it.
After the meal, filled with more laughter and good conversation than you remember the family ever sharing, your father prepares the horses and rides you in his cart to return the Ring of Kings.
What follows is underwhelming, to say the least. You spend the evening being toured around the place, introduced to one member of the royal family after another, who are hardly appreciative to receive their missing ring, let alone treating you and your father with such pretentiousness that it breaks your heart for you both. For yourself in particular, coming to terms with the fact that these aren’t the kind of people you wish to spend the rest of your life with.
The next person in line for the royal throne says absolutely nothing the entire time. When they do acknowledge anything it’s by way of bored stares and eye rolling.
Leaving with a heavy heart, you ride home with your father cracking jokes now and again trying to cheer you up.
“Mother will be very happy,” he says, reaching the edge of your village. “to have you home again!”
In that moment it clicks.
You won’t be marrying into the royal family, that’s for sure. But you also won’t be living at home again.
