Week Four - Task #12. - "After"

Postby Prof. Sindor Aloyarc » Sun May 23, 2021 11:34 pm

You return to the Farthest-Away Mountain with all of your family so they can see the place and meet your newfound friends.

Having not asked his real name, and him having never offered, you continue affectionately calling the green eyed magician
Croak.

“So pleased to meet you all!” he says to your family. Pulling you in for a tight squeeze, thrilled to see you’ve returned.

He escorts the group toward a visit with the trio of gargoyles and their troll of a brother where you find that the four of them were originally all gnomes!

“I’ll be,” you say, laughing and giving a few swift pats on their backs as they each greet you in these original shapes. “I’m sorry, it never occurred to me to ask more about your true form.”

“We would only have been able to offer so much in the way of explanation at the time, what with the memory enchantments we all suffered!” they laugh along with you, enthused to be back in their original forms, and that you’ve come back. “You have in fact come back to stay, yes?”

You turn to your family, who already know the answer but some of them are hesitant in wanting to believe it.

What might have been an awkward pause is broken by your father, who comes over to put an arm around you.

“Of course you are,” he says giving a pointed look around. “And we’ll be back to visit all the time.”

Welling up, you refuse to let him go while each member of your family comes in for an embrace before it’s time they head on home.

Your father and siblings begin heading back down the mountain path, leaving your mother behind.

Holding your face in her palms, she lightly plants a kiss upon your forehead before pulling back to look you in the eyes. One hand gets placed on either shoulder.

“I love you,” she says.

Then turns and walks away.
