Week One - Task #01. “Set the Ground”
Before any form of magic can be directed, there must first be awareness of what is already present.
Muggles practicing loving-kindness do not begin by trying to immediately generate warmth or compassion. Instead, they begin by noticing. What is here right now. Thoughts, feelings, tension, distraction, even resistance. All of it counts.
This is a step that can feel deceptively simple, and yet it is foundational. If we attempt to direct kindness without first acknowledging our current state, the practice can begin to feel forced or disconnected.
In Muggle terms, this is the difference between reacting and responding. Awareness creates the space in which intention can actually take hold.
If it feels helpful, you might begin with something simple like,
May I notice what is here.
The goal is not to change anything. It is simply to observe, without judgment, whatever happens to be present.
Task:
Take some time to set the ground by completing the following Jigsaw puzzle. There’s no need to rush. Let your attention move at its own pace, noticing what draws your focus as you go.
