The Arctic Hare (Lepus arcticus) makes its home in the North American tundra. They average a length between 19-20 inches and weigh roughly between 6-15 pounds. In their native environment, they have a lifespan of 3-5 years, although the survival rate is considerably lower in captivity.

Nature has provided these animals with ways of surviving in such a harsh climate. For example, they have extremely thick fur and shortened ears and camouflage themselves with a winter coat of pure white. in the warmer months, their coat changes to blue-grey, again to blend in with their surroundings. Surviving on a winter diet of woody plants, mosses, and lichens, which they obtain by digging in the snow, they have no shortage of food supply. In other seasons they eat buds, berries, leaves, roots, and bark. Occasionally, they do enjoy such delicacies as fish and the stomach contents of eviscerated caribou (yuck!).

Interestingly enough, these animals do not hibernate, although they may burrow together in the snow to keep warm. Known predators of the Arctic hare are the Arctic fox, wolves, ermines, snowy owls, gyrfalcon, rough-legged hawks, and humans. The gyrfalcon is especially brutal, as they often cut them in half first, using their bones and feet in the structure of their nests. Ouch!

I think we all know a few things about polar bears, so I thought to share some fun facts about this wonderful animal!

1. Because they mostly live on the sea ice of the Arctic Ocean and depend on it for their food and habitat, they have been considered to be the marine mammals.

2. Their skin is in fact back. Their fur is translucent, and the only reason we see it as white its because it reflects visible light.

3. They can smell their prey up to a kilometre away. This allows them to smell seal breathing holes in the ice.

Let's talk about reindeer and I am going to steal Harry's idea because I think fun facts are pretty cute thing to do!

1. They live in the Arctic tundra, but can also be found in forests in Greenland, Scandinavia, Russia, Alaska and Canada.

2. They can live up to 15 years in the wild. They have been domesticated before, and in captivity they can live as long as 20 years.

3. Male reindeer can grow up to 1.2 metres tall at the shoulder and weigh up to 250 kilograms.

4. Reindeer spend up to 40% of their lives in snow.

Norwegian bison, also known as the Muskox (Ovibos moschatus). The name is commonly known for the fact that the males give off a very musky odor during the seasonal rut time. They are hooved and very furry or hairy known animals. I have chosen the Muskox bison due to the saying "Be Like The Bison, Face Life's Storm Head On". I like how it is explained that when a storm Bison its way the bison would head first in the storm so that it is first out of the storm where other animals will hide and wait the storm out. The Muskox is also known as the “ugly moose/Ugly Bison”. It is an Arctic animal mostly seen in Norway, Northern Canada, Greenland and Sweden.
