Week One - Task #03. - “The Haunted Hallway”

Postby Anne-Marie Gagne » Sun Sep 03, 2023 12:17 am

As you're walking up one of the staircases you feel the familiar jolt of the staircase deciding it wanted to be in another spot. You wait until it stops at a landing you have never seen before with only a single door. You decide to get off here and see if the stairs may have led you to a shortcut. You open the door to see a dark and dusty hallway. When you open the door, the staircase moves again and leaves you stranded on the landing. You walk into the hallway when the torches along the wall flare with light suddenly and a strong wind blows through, slamming the door shut behind you. There's a wail in the air that sounds suspiciously like a woman crying out in despair behind the door at the other end of the hallway. You turn the knob of the door you came in and realize that it has locked on its own.

With the only choice being forward, you start towards the door at the end.

Task:
For this task, find the words hidden in this word search (word list here) of familiar ghosts and portraits in Hogwarts. Send your solution in a PM to me AND to Prof. Sindor Aloyarc.

Alternatively, in 100 words or more, please describe how you feel as you find yourself in the hallway on your own with no way to go but through it.

This task is worth 15 beans with a bonus 15 beans if you submit all four Week One tasks by the end of the activity on September 30th before 11:59PM HOL time.

If I was in the hallway, I would've been quite scared. I would have run as fast as I could to the door. But I couldn't open it- it was locked. Then I would've realized- what place this was. It was the Haunted Hallway, the place the other children warned me so much of. I was only a new kid. I would regret my choice to avoid believing the other students. But this was only the haunted hallway. Peeves will help me. I tried to call for him. The weeping woman turned back and saw me, she became horrified as she wiped out her tears. '''What are you doing here'' she asked with a cute English accent. This must be moaning myrtle, I thought. '' I was looking for a shortcut to the common room when I saw the door. I thought it might be a shortcut, but it is not'' I said slowly. Myrtle looked up ''what's your comment room'' she asked. I mumbled Ravenclaw. She showed me a door and said '' This is the common room you are looking for. And Holly, don't come here again. Horrible stuff happened here today and you need to go now, before the bloody baron sees you.'' I stepped into the door and therefore the common room, safe

In that dimly lit Hogwarts hallway, my emotions were in turmoil, like a tempest swirling within. My heart raced erratically, pounding against my chest like a caged bird desperate for freedom. The sudden burst of torchlight, the forceful slam of the door behind me, and the bone-chilling gust of wind had all coalesced into an overwhelming cocktail of fear, uncertainty, and disquiet.

The haunting wail that hung heavy in the air was a discordant symphony of despair, and its mournful notes struck a chord deep within my soul. It resonated with my growing sense of unease, each anguished cry echoing my inner turmoil. I couldn't help but wonder if it was an eerie reflection of the fear that had taken root within me.

My fingers trembled as they reached for the doorknob of the entrance, only to find it locked, an unexpected barrier separating me from the world I knew. It was as if the very walls of Hogwarts had conspired to keep me captive, intensifying my feelings of isolation and vulnerability. I was adrift in a sea of trepidation, with no lifeline to grasp onto.

In that moment, my emotions were a tempest, and I was at the mercy of its tumultuous waves. Fear coursed through me, gnawing at my resolve, while curiosity danced on the edges of my thoughts, urging me to unravel the mysteries that lay ahead. The uncertainty of the situation bore down on me like a heavy weight, and I grappled with a profound sense of foreboding.

The cries of despair, still hauntingly present, tugged at the very core of my being. They were a call to action, a summons to confront the enigmatic journey that Hogwarts had thrust upon me. As I stood there, locked in that surreal hallway, my emotions became my compass, guiding me through the labyrinthine corridors of both the castle and my own fear.
