Week Three - Task #11. - "A Dwelling Duel Dance"

Postby Katherine Laurier » Sat Mar 16, 2024 6:07 am

You walk out to the grassy Transfiguration Courtyard, which was fairly crowded with people and... chairs? You wonder what that's about, but brush it off. The sun shines over Hogwarts as you squint up at the sky. The organizers for the dueling club had set up the next meeting at the Transfiguration Courtyard. Right as you step foot on the ground, a familiar voice speaks, "Welcome back!"

The chatter quickly pipes down and bodies face to the front to easily see the source of the voice, Katherine Laurier. She smiles as she says, with mystery in her voice, "Today, before we begin... who here wants to dance?"

You see that students, including you, aren't exactly sure whether that was a rhetorical question or a serious one, but a few hands raise in the air. The girl calls the one nearest to the front, "You, dear." The student goes up to her and she whispers a few things in their ear. They look fairly shocked as she speaks but, in the end, nod eagerly with a smile, and they move to stand at a spot a few feet away from Katherine.

"Right," Katherine says and clears her throat. She takes out her wand and points it at the student. With a focused face, she moves her wand in a certain motion and speaks, "Tarantallegra!" Light shoots from her wand and hits the target, and the volunteer's legs begin to dance and spasm wildly.

You gasp as you observe this. Katherine quickly counters the spell with a few motions of her wand and a few whispered words and she smiles at the student, "Thank you very much. Let's give them a round of applause, shall we?"

You, as well as your fellow club members, clap for the volunteer as they return to their original spot in the crowd. Your trainer speaks again, "That was the Dancing Feet spell for you, folks! Of course, from the name itself and from what you've observed, this makes the target's legs dance and go out of control. Hence, it is quite a fun spell in dueling. Not as fun if it's casted on you though!"

"Now, I want you all to try to research or recall any current knowledge you may have about the spell. I'm sure you've also noticed the chairs around the courtyard," she says while pointing to the chairs surrounding them. "Once you are done researching the basics, feel free to attempt the spell on one of the chairs. Your trainers are just right here if you need any help. If you are unsure, please ask us first before doing anything to avoid any backfires. Is that clear?"

A 'yes' echoes through the area. Katherine smiles contentedly, "Right then. Ready to dance?"

Task:
Put your knowledge on the spell to the test by answering the following 10 trivia questions about Tarantallegra. Each question is worth 1 bean, for a total of 10 beans. For the task to be considered complete, you need to answer at least 6 questions.
1. What light does the spell produce when cast successfully?
2. What are the two essentials in order to cast the Dancing Feet spell according to the Cast-a-Spell handbook?
3. In June 1996, Albus Dumbledore casted this spell at Hogwarts on what?
4. On June 18, 1996, Antonin Dolohiv casted this spell. During which battle did he cast it and who was his target?
5. What happened in the incident of Mount Vesuvius?
6. Where was the Dancing Feet spell created?
7. What is the etymology of Tarantellagra?
8. What does the hand movement for the spell resemble?
9. What type of spell is Tarantellagra?
10. Name another use of the spell besides dueling.

Please use your own words when answering and send your answers in a Private Message to Katherine Laurier and Prof. Sindor Aloyarc.

Alternatively, write at least 150 words on what you would do in the situation where this spell was casted on you during a duel. What would you do first - try to resist or counter the effects of the spell so you stop dancing or cast a spell back? How will you defend yourself and go on with the duel? If you would resist or counter the spell, how will you do it? If you would cast a spell back, what spell/s do you know of that you could cast?

This task is worth 10 beans. You can earn an additional 10 bonus beans for completing all Week Three tasks by Saturday, March 30th, at 11:59 PM (HOL time).
