Week One - Task #03. "The Lamppost Affair"

Postby Prof. Sindor Aloyarc » Mon Sep 01, 2025 12:17 pm

Tonight’s target turn out to be the streetlamps around Honeysuckle Square.

They have been observed leaning—yes, leaning—toward pedestrians and muttering compliments like “Nice shoes” or “You’ve got a lovely bounce on your step today!”

A Muggle couple stops beneath one and receives a cheerful “Your love will endure!” before the bulb flickers pink.

You step under its glow and whisper, “Who enchanted you?”

The light flashes once, then it bends slightly like a bow and whispers, “He watches from below.”

It goes out.

You mark the location on your map. This just got weirder.

Task:
The following Hashi indicates connections between the currently documented muggle experiences with these lampposts in the square. Complete the puzzle and Send Me Your Solution through a private message.

I grew up in a haunted house!

The house was built in 1852 by an ancestor of mine. In 1861 he was inducted into the Confederate Army as a Captain and fought in the American Civil War. Because he was an officer, other officers and intelligence command would routinely meet at the house (we have military documents that provide interesting detail for some of the meetings). It is not at all abnormal to find Civil War uniform buttons or buckles outside around the farm.

There is a cemetery on the property with maybe 30-35 graves. I would visit now and then when I was younger and clean up a bit. On one visit I heard what sounded like a young girl say “thank you.”

It was also very normal to hear boots on the main staircase at night and soft, padded feet on the back staircase. We also would hear clattering in the fireplace in the kitchen despite no one else being in the room. It always sounds like someone stirring a wooden spoon against a heavy pot.
