Finn trots beside you, his paws barely leaving prints. “If I were a herd of elk,” he muses, “I’d be somewhere warmer. Like inside.”
You’re about to remind him that frost elk are born of snow when a distant thrum vibrates the air. It’s low and deep, like a horn, or a song. You follow the sound to a ridge, and there they are: hundreds of elk made of frost and starlight, their antlers glittering with ice.
They should be moving, flowing across the plain in formation. Instead, they stand scattered and still, staring at one another in confusion. The lead stag is enormous, his antlers carved with runes of light. He stomps the ground, trying to call the herd together, but no sound comes.
Finn’s ears twitch. “His song’s gone.”
The map-sphere glows faintly. A shimmer spreads across the snow like ripples in water. You close your eyes and listen. Beneath the silence, a faint melody stirs, buried deep. The Migration’s rhythm. The stag’s lost his connection to it.
You step forward, place your hand on the frost elk’s muzzle, and hum softly. One note, then another. The air trembles.
Slowly, the stag exhales a cloud of light and joins you as his antlers blaze.
Across the vale, other elk lift their heads. One by one, they begin to join in song, their voices forming like frigid air blown through crystal trees. The resonance grows and grows until the whole valley rumbles with harmony.
Finn beams. “Well,” he says, “you’ve got the knack.”
The herd begins to move, their steps leaving trails of shimmering frost that point northward toward the next lost Snowbeasts. The first part of the Migration is restored.

Alternatively you can share an Accomplishment below writing 100 words or more for full credit. Sometimes when we’re feeling nervous, not enough, or taking on new ventures that push us outside our comfort zone, it’s helpful to remember other instances where we may have reached a goal, overcome a challenge, or successfully completed a project we’re proud of.
15 beans/sapphires are available for this task, with an extra 15 for completing all Week One tasks by end of activity. Deadline is 11:59pm (HOL time) on Wednesday January 21st.
