Welcome to the Ravenclaw Summer 2020 Gobstones Tournament! Are you ready to compete to win the Golden Gobstones set?
There will be a variety of tasks to complete to prepare you for the tournament. There will be trivia, puzzles, writing, and art tasks. Each task represents one of your gobstones, so there will be 15 tasks total.
This event is divided into two parts. Part 1 is the tasks to prepare you for the tournament, Part 2 is the tournament.
The first two weeks of this activity will involve time for you to complete tasks to prepare your board for the tournament. The second two weeks will be when the tournament takes place. If you are not interested in participating in the tournament, you are absolutely still welcome to complete the tasks and have fun earning beans!
Part 1: The Tasks
There will be a total of 15 tasks, representing each of the 15 gobstones in your set. All of the tasks will be posted at the beginning of the event, you will have two weeks to complete them. They are all due by 11:59pm HOL time on July 18th, if you want to use them to compete in the tournament. Otherwise, they are due by 11:59pm HOL time on July 31st.
Part 2: The Tournament
Your board will start off looking like this (unless you design your own board in Task 2), as you can see there aren’t any Gobstones on it yet.
All of your gobstones will start on the outer ring. Once, you complete a task, you get a spin on this spinner. Whichever number (1,2, or 3) the spinner lands on, your gobstone for that task moves to that ring.
During the first week of the tournament (third week of the month) we will begin the first round. Each person will be matched against another person, and a topic will be opened for each match (or, if both people agree we could try to set up a time on IRC). You will be able to see the board of the person you are competing against. You will post where you want to aim on their board. (Ex. Kendra might say ‘I aim for Mia’s A3.') Then, we will spin a spinner to determine whether you knocked their gobstone out or not. Each ring on the board has a different probability of knocking the gobstone out. Ex. If you aim for the center ring, you have a ⅓ chance of knocking their gobstone out. If you aim for the middle(second) ring, you have a 50/50 chance of knocking the gobstone out. If you aim for a gobstone on the outer ring, that gobstone is automatically out. After each knockout, we will update the boards on Google slides. The first person to knock out all of their opponent’s Gobstones, wins the match.
If you wish to participate in the tournament, please sign up under the signup post. Signups will be open until 12pm HOL time on July 18th.
