A sound so perfect it could not be real,
Floats above the waves as they crest and crash.
How to explain the pull it has,
On the crew who toil on the deck.

There is nothing to indicate what is making the song,
Though the men scan the horizon fervently.
Then one gives a shout from the top of a mast,
As he spots a lighthouse shining in the dusk.

Relief from the men, who are tired of the sea,
When they hear that land is near.
Too distracted by the sound leading them in,
To see the wrecks littering the ocean floor.

[OUT OF CHARACTER]
For me, I feel like one of the big things driving my loss aversion is the difficulty of replacing things once lost. For example, if you think you'll have a hard time getting a new job, you'll instinctively go out of your way a bit more to avoid losing your current job than you would if you had a feeling it would be easy to find another job.

Of course, as of now, I have specific health-related priorities that makes finding replacements (in terms of career, social life, and even where I live) much harder than it would be otherwise; after all, the pursuit of these replacements would need to respect these health priorities as well!

To be fair, I tend to have a hard time letting go of things that treat me well... is that loss aversion too?

Beguiling

Charming, enchanting
She moved through the room
her dress red like the
freshest rose on a
midsommers morning.

Oh how beguiling
oh how wonderous,
those eyes that enchant
that mystify
her voice like honey
moved me through the halls

and when she finally stopped
and turned to face me
her eyes
those once beautiful pool
red like a pinprick of blood

her teeth elongated and
she sprung upon me
oh how enchanting
and beguiling
she once was.

Week Two - Task #07. - “Beguiling”

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
“Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

Task:
Share a piece of Art with us! This could depict imagery from The Raven, or any other piece of Poe’s other writing. Participants may use mediums such as drawing, painting, or digital graphic works for their depictions, etc. Remember to keep embedded images to 600x600px when not linking elsewhere.

Alternatively you may contribute an original Poem in 75 words or more titled “Beguiling” or Reflect on the concept of Loss Aversion with the same word count minimum. For better or worse, when something is gone, it’s gone, and this could be forever. Have you ever gone out of your way to avoid losing something important to you? Or even to avoid losing something you believe you’d be better off without? Perhaps you have witness this in others, or have thoughts on the topic in general.

This task is worth 15 beans, with an additional 15 bonus beans for completing all Week Two tasks by end of activity. Deadline is 11:59pm (HOL time) on Halloween, Monday October 31st.
