Task 9: New games to try

Postby Mia Fountain » Sun Dec 29, 2024 10:52 pm

You’ve become bored during your free time so you requested a board game from home as well as a book about various card games and their rules. There are many different card and board games out there, as well as variations of many of them. Tell us about one you may have heard of that you have yet to try.

Tell us about what boardgame(s) and/or Card Game(s) you want to try in 75 words or more.

Tasks will be due January 31st at 11:59pm HOL. Completed tasks are worth 10 beans/sapphires each.

I really want to try Game of Life. I heard that it is about making choices in life through a board game simulation version. Apparently, you roll the dice, land on a square with your token which looks like a car with holes in it, and take whatever action is indicated such as finding a job or getting married. The holes can be plugged with pegs to indicate how many people are travelling in the car. It could include you (the first peg that is already there since the start of your game) and your children and the rest of your family depending on your progress in the game. There is a bank with money, and there are awards and/or mini-games rewarding players for good behavior. In the end, the player with the most money wins. I love role-play and simulation games online, especially ones that deal with money, so I guess this one is worth a try to me.

I've recently seen some people playing Hues and Cues, and it seems so fun! It's a board with a variety of colors, totaling 480 colored squares on the board. The objective is to correctly guess or get close to the color that the player had chosen, getting short clues as to what the color is without any mention of actual color names, like having the clue of "grass" to indicate a shade of green without knowing the exact shade that the player had chosen.

I'm really excited to try Gloomhaven, a board game that combines tactical combat with a story. The board game offers an immersive experience with its various storylines and character progression. Another game on my list is Wingspan, an engine-building game about attracting birds to your wildlife preserve. An old friend told me about it a couple years ago, and I can't get it out of my mind, I haven't been able to find it either though.

Despite really enjoying strategy games, I’ve never played Scotland Yard and would really like to try it. One player is “Mr X “ and the rest of the players are detectives hunting him through the streets of London. The positions of the detectives are always known, but Mr X’s route is only shown periodically, meaning the detectives have to retry and piece together the route he’s using. The game ends when a detective hits the same location as Mr X, or if he can’t move without hitting a detective.
